Every Halloween, the ghost of Dreadful John Longparrot returns to haunt the halls of the Jolly Roger. He moans and screams, “Trick arrrrrr Treat!” while he searches for Captain Hook’s candy. Here’s the thing of it: Captain Hook has the best candy in all of Neverland, but he never wants to give any of it away. Especially not to ghosts.

On one moonless Halloween eve, Captain Hook went down to the Mermaid Lagoon looking for the perfect spot to bury his candy and hide it from Dreadful John. He didn’t see Peter Pan and Tinkerbell hiding behind a large rock. As soon as Captain Hook had buried his candy, Peter Pan shouted, “Bangarang!” and jumped out of the shadows. Captain Hook screamed and said, “Don’t ever frighten me like that again, Pan! Prepare to meet your doom!” He drew his sword and ran after Peter who had flown away laughing loudly. Captain Hook didn’t notice Tinkerbell digging up the treasure. You might remember her being a lot smaller, but in this terribly spooky story Tinkerbell is rather huge… and hairy.

At the darkest part of the night, just before dawn, Dreadful John appeared in the Lost Boys & Girls hideout. He’d found the note Peter had left for him on the kitchen door of the Jolly Roger.

It said that he shouldn’t talk to pirates, and he must always believe in fairies. And everybody knows what that means. Unless you are a grown-up who has forgotten all about Neverland.

From that Halloween night to this, Dreadful John visits Peter to share his sweet bounty. A pirate ghost makes a very good friend.

This Halloween, you must absolutely go down to Neverland to meet Dreadful John. Just follow the signs. Second star to the right, and straight on till morning.

There will be caramel popcorn, chocolate bars, and Halloween desserts, and when you listen very carefully, you will hear Captain Hook screaming, “Pan! Longparrot! You stupid, sorry, parasitic sacks of scallywags!”

Ow, what would Halloween be like without Captain Hook?

Happy Halloween! Trick arrrrr Treat!
